about

The Jewish community was one of the most ancient groups who settled down in the Iberian peninsula. During Medieval times Sephardic Jews, Christians and Arabs lived together in what was called the Golden Age. Their songs have their roots in pagan, Visigoth and
Byzantine musical forms, and especially in the Arabic tradition of the Moors creating a rich harmonic musical mix. Then came the exile from Spain. Their music spread
along the whole Mediterranean Sea melting together with the cultures of the lands they met. It is due to oral transmission that the Sephardic culture has come to us
through the stories, the proverbs, the lyrics and the romances in the verses that Sephardic women collected and passed on. Their beloved Spain, Sefarad in Hebrew,
keeps on being relived through generations up until the present day.

The exile's songs of Sephardic Jews, ancient and also so actual in their humanity, are an interesting/fascinating conceptual basis in order to complete an exploration and a ri-arrangement of the tradition that doesn't want to be a pure ri-proposition but also a fusion. ... more
