Mi Linda Dama has been singing songs of the Sephardic Diaspora since 2015,
re-arranged in order to emphasize the fusion of all of the Mediterranean cultures
involved in this tradition, with a sound which mediates between past and present
times thanks to the use of instruments belonging to different realms and eras. An
exploration which also wants to be fusion, rebirth, innovation.
In 2017 they published their first album “Matesha” (RadiciMusic), followed by an
extensive tour of Italy. The search for a profound and original sound has given rise to
“Skalerica” in 2019: the blend of acoustic and electronic instruments has liberated
the musicians’ creativity and the repertoire has been enriched by melodies of their
own composition. The Mediterranean sea remains firmly at the centre, with its moving
stories these songs tell: exile, love, longing for homeland
Sephardits: a Mediterranean tradition
During Middle Ages Sephardits lived in Iberian Peninsula together with Christians
and Arab Muslims; their s tories, handed do wn orally, mixed so with Andalusian
melodies and Arabic rhytms, creating a very rich musical mixture. Alhambra Decree
in 1492 expleed them starting the diaspora that saw them crossing all Mediterranean
sea in centuries.
Skalerica
Peoples, traditions, scents and colours… stories of explorations and a diaspora across all of
the Mediterranean sea, sea of light and sea of blood, that sometimes gives, sometimes swallows.
Skalerica, which is to say that everything will eventually come to light, an opportunity to rise from
the abyss, and, for those who aspire to it, to discover a beauty that sings about wounds, lost
loves and longing for homeland.
